Marine First Responder (MFR) is an emergency medical response course designed to prepare mariners how to respond effectively and efficiently to life threatening incidents on the open water.
Incidents on the water pose unique challenges due to the complexity of being on the water, potentially occurring miles offshore, weather conditions and response time of first responders. First responders could include local/state law enforcement, the U.S. Coast Guard, or international partners pending the distance offshore.
The captain is responsible for everyone on board. With medical training and the appropriate medical kit, he or she can help sustain life while waiting for first responders to arrive. Through this 4-hour MFR course, captains and their crews will gain the confidence and skills needed during the onset of a medical emergency, when stability matters most.
